Sylas was tugging off his top for bed when he spotted something on the nightstand that made his heart skip a beat.

The sleetcoin sat on top of one of his books. He froze, staring at it for what felt like forever.

Finally, he took it, feeling the buzzing magic in his palm, calling him to open his mind to it. To see his worst day and hers.

His eyes slid across the room until they found Briar. She was curled up and sleeping already, but Madora was still reading. Violet eyes met his.

“She left it,” Madora’s voice barely carried to him.

“Where was it?” Sylas rasped.

Madora nodded her head toward Greyson’s bed. The prick was sprawled out across his blankets in his stupid fucking night hat, dead asleep.

“He watched it?” Sylas asked.

Madora wrinkled her nose. “Of course.”

Sylas made for the balcony, his heart in his throat. Before he made it out, Madora spoke. “For the record, Prince, I don’t think you deserve to see it anymore than him.”

Sylas welcome the frigid air, finding Axel smoking his evening coil, topless as he sat on the balcony railing.

“Found it, I gather?” Axel asked.

Sylas couldn’t speak, but he was sure his twisted expression said everything.

Fuck.

“She shouldn’t have given it to you again,” Axel said as Sylas joined him, resting his forearms on the stone ledge and staring into the still winter night.

“Don’t start,” Sylas growled. “Madora’s already had a go.”

He turned the coin in his hands. Why would Briar give it to him again? But he knew. It was a dare, a challenge. “I wish she fucking hadn’t.”

“I know,” Axel sighed. “That’s the point though, knowing her.”

Distant forest trees rustled in another long silence.

“Greyson watched it.” Sylas buried his face in his hands, wanting to scream.

“Yup.” Coil smoke billowed in icy air.

“Do you have any idea, how many ways I’ve dreamt of killing him after all this is all over?”

“Yup,” Axel nodded again. “Pretty much sums up the term though, doesn’t it?”
